The following video is a sample of a Virtual Memorial Service and not a real service
A cremation without a funeral service or the attendance of the family.
Direct cremation is becoming an increasingly popular choice for individuals and families planning a funeral, more recently due to increasing pressure on household finances.
With the impact a death can have on those left behind, we feel it is imperative that people fully understand their options before committing to a direct cremation.
Making the right choice can be difficult without the correct knowledge or information. With so many options and daytime advertising offering low cost, stress free funeral plans it is easy to become overwhelmed. People buy a direct cremation without understanding what it entails and how it may impact their family.
A direct cremation allows those organising the funeral to follow the wishes of a loved one who has requested a simple cremation only, without a service.
Direct Cremations at Lea Fields
Direct cremations take place without mourners in attendance at the crematorium. Although family members and loved ones cannot physically attend, for peace of mind we offer the opportunity to have the placement of the coffin webcast live over the internet, or the opportunity to order a Virtual Memorial service at: www2.obitus.com/vms
Every service held at Lea Fields Crematorium is treated with dignity and respect. All coffins enter the chapel through the main entrance, the name of the deceased is shown on the tribute screens in the chapel and music of your choice is played whilst the coffin is respectfully placed on the catafalque before the curtains are closed.
The applicant for the cremation can either collect the cremated remains directly from Lea Fields Crematorium, request that their funeral director does it on their behalf or choose to scatter in the Garden of Remembrance.
Attended Direct – Farewell Service
Often your loved one chooses a no fuss, direct funeral, but we understand that there are many ways to say goodbye, it is important to recognise that for some, a direct cremation does not provide the right closure.
A Farewell Service is a 10-minute attended direct funeral. Although no eulogy will be said, and no officiant or minister is present, it gives a maximum of 6 mourners the opportunity to see the coffin placed on the catafalque whilst listening to a chosen piece of music.
There are many direct cremation companies (either independent or part of a larger funeral group) that offer direct cremation funeral planning, often sold in pre-arranged packages.
They are able to provide a convenient service, which may be suitable to your needs, although there is often no or limited choice of where the cremation of your loved one will take place, meaning the cremation may not be local to you.
Your local Funeral Director can provide you with the same service, often at the same or similar cost offered by these companies but within your local area.
